MORGENLAND FESTIVAL OSNABRÜCK - AMMAR 808

Vom 29.05. bis 06.06.2026 rückt das Morgenland Festival Osnabrück unter der neuen künstlerischen Leitung der iranischen Klarinettistin Shabnam Parvaresh das Thema „Stimmen der Diaspora“ ins Zentrum. Nach zwei Jahrzehnten interkultureller Pionierarbeit markiert diese Ausgabe einen bedeutenden Generationswechsel und fokussiert sich auf Kunstschaffende, deren Werke von Migrationserfahrung und kultureller Transformation erzählen. Einer von insgesammt 3 Acts die wir bei uns in der BOTSCHAFT begrüßen dürfen ist AMMAR 808. Der in Dänemark lebende tunesische Produzent Sofyann Ben Youssef hat bereits völlig neue Klangwelten erschaffen. Sein verblüffendes Debüt unter dem Namen AMMAR 808 – Maghreb United aus dem Jahr 2018 – verbindet wuchtige Rhythmen der TR-808-Drummachine und knochenerschütternde Bässe mit traditionellen nordafrikanischen Folk-Instrumentalist:innen und Sänger:innen aus Tunesien, Algerien und Marokko. Das Ergebnis wirkt wie ein pan-maghrebinischer Science-Fiction-Mash-up, der direkt aus den fiebrigsten Fantasien von William Burroughs stammen könnte. Translation (EN): From 29 May to 6 June 2026, the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück, under the new artistic direction of Iranian clarinetist Shabnam Parvaresh, places the theme “Voices of the Diaspora” at the center of its program. After two decades of intercultural pioneering work, this edition marks an important generational shift and focuses on artists whose work reflects experiences of migration and cultural transformation. One of three acts we will be welcoming at the BOTSCHAFT is AMMAR 808. The Tunisia-born producer Sofyann Ben Youssef, now based in Denmark, has already created entirely new sonic landscapes. His remarkable 2018 debut under the name AMMAR 808 — Maghreb United — merges the powerful rhythms of the Roland TR-808 drum machine and bone-shaking bass with traditional North African folk instrumentalists and singers from Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. The result feels like a pan-Maghrebi science-fiction mash-up, as if it had emerged directly from the most feverish imaginations of William S. Burroughs.
